Requirements to earn the Scout badge
This badge is required to do any advancements. I feel the book doesn't have the best explanations so here they are.
Meet Age Requirements
Be a boy who is age 11 or has completed the 5th grade. You can also become a scout by going through cub scouts and earning your arrow of light
Complete application
This can be found by talking to a scoutmaster of a troop. This also must include a health history signed by your guardian
Find a troop
You usually be able to find a troop near you, but if not, you can visit a
Local Council Locator. This is a scout council locator. Just type in the information
Repeat pledge of allegiance
You should know this, but if not- I pledge Allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America. And to the republic for which it stands. one nation under god. indivisible With Liberty and justice for all
Demonstrate the scout sign, salute and handshake
In all of these except the handshake, remember to use three fingers. The arm should be in a 90 degree angle on the sign and should be straight. On the handshake, use the left hand because it is closest to your heart. On the salute, have your hand above your eyes but below your hairline.

Complete the pamphlet exercises
This is mainly between your parent and you. The pamphlet should be in the book before the name page. This mainly an easy thing and should be kept between your parent and you.
Participate in a scoutmaster conference
This can be done at any meeting once you have the rest of the requirements done. You should get used to this, because you will need to do this every advancement. It will mainly be things like "how do you like the troop?" and "Is there anything which should be changed?", questions about the troop.
